Videokunst und Installation in der BTK
Anlässlich der Langen Nacht der Wissenschaft entwickeln Studenten der Berliner Technischen Kunsthochschule (BTK) unter Anleitung des international renommierten Videokünstlers Philipp Geist Video- und Medieninstallationen, die sich mit dem Thema Wissenschaft und Kunst beschäftigen. Die Installationen der Medien- und Designstudenten machen einen spielerischen und konzeptuellen Umgang mit Wissenschaft und künstlerisch-technischen Prozessen erfahrbar und verwandeln Außen- und Innenbereiche der BTK in ein kreatives, begehbares Labor. Philipp Geist arbeitet international in den Medien Video, Performance, Fotografie und Malerei: Zur 'Langen Nacht der Museen' im Januar 2008 bespielte Geist die komplette Fläche der Piazzetta am Kulturforum in Berlin mit der Videoinstallation 'Time Fades'. Im September 2007 zeigte er am Museum für zeitgenössische Kunst, dem 'Palazzo delle Esposizioni' in Rom, die Installation 'Time Lines'.

BIRDS A_LIGHTING by Philipp Geist
The Berlin-based artist Philipp Geist (1976) will show his installation 'Birds A_Lighting' at
the art space EL ESCAPARATE. In his concept he projects directly on origami cranes and
paper structures. The birds are being transformed and animated by images alternating
between purist, poetic, dreamlike and intangibly fragile compositions. The result is an
interplay between the fragile traditional Japanese craft and his video works. This
combination of still and moving elements creates suspense, as well as the arrangement of
the static and geometrical birds that partly dissolve into heaps of paper. Thus, an interplay
between planned and exact structures and coincidental chaos is being created. His live
performance at the opening on 18 Jun 2009 will be followed by a window installation
including photo works.
Philipp Geist, born in Witten in 1976, grew up in Weilheim and moved to Berlin in 1999.
As an artist and autodidact, he works internationally with the mediums video installation,
audio/ visual performance, painting and photography, e.g. 2002: opening of the Pinakothek

Das stille Örtchen am Neuköllner Schifffahrtskanal wird auch in diesem Jahr wieder zum Leben erweckt. Oben und unten, Innen und außen, Stadt und Natur fließen in den toiletten27 zusammen, und eröffnen sinnliche Ein- und Ausblicke auf die Stadt als Organismus.
Mit Objekt-, Video- und Sound-Installationen, Zeichnung, Musik und Performance reflektieren internationale KünstlerInnen die Schichten und Geschichten dieses (fast) öffentlichen Raumes in der grünen Unterwelt Neuköllns.

?Die Zeit ist voller Rätsel, aber wir wissen ziemlich genau, wo sie anfängt - bei 15 Hertz'. Bei dieser Geschwindigkeit (15 mal pro Sekunde) geschieht in der Wahrnehmung des Menschen etwas Besonderes: Wir nehmen keine einzelnen Ereignisse mehr wahr, sondern erleben statt einzelner Bilder Bewegung bzw. hören statt einzelner Schläge einen Ton. Die Performance setzt sich mit diesem Phänomen und dem Thema Zeit in künstlerischer Weise auseinander: Vom Ereignis zur Struktur, von Schlag zu Rhythmus, von Bild zu Film, von Moment zu Trance.
SONIC VISIONS zeigt die Synthese von Klang und Bild. Mit heutiger Computertechnologie kreiert, mischt und verändert der VJ (quasi das Pendant zum DJ) seine Bilder in Echtzeit zur Musik. Er benötigt dafür die Kenntnis von musikalischer Form, Harmonie und Rhythmus. Die Musiker schöpfen aus ihrem Wissen von Symbolik, Farben, Grafik und bildender Kunst im Allgemeinen. In enger Zusammenarbeit, als Band quasi, stellen sie ihre audio-visuellen Samples her, improvisieren, proben und tauschen sich intensiv aus.

He has specialized for some years in the domain of facade projections. On the walls of the Genevois he will present his subtle and complex interminglings between space, time and movement.

The Mapping festival is an international V.A. festival based in Geneva, Switzerland.
The festival was formed around the goal to promote the VJ medium, its culture and its connection to electronic music. Since then it has evolved into presenting related projects in contemporary art such as audiovisual performances, and interactive installations as well as including workshops and lectures that further emphasize the aspect of community that is a strong component of VJ movement.
Now in our 5th year the physical spaces that the festival will occupy will reflect this diversity in that they will include club, gallery, cinema and outdoor venues.
