Anlässlich des Lichtfestivals ?Kronach Leuchtet" in Oberfranken zeigt der Berliner Künstler Philipp Geist (1976) die Videoinstallation ?ZEITENLICHTER / TIME LIGHTS" an der barocken Festung Rosenberg. Als zusätzliches Highlight wird die Schauspielerin Ulrike Mahr mit einer Performance zum Thema Zeit eine weitere Ebene in die Installation einbringen und an verschiedenen Stellen auftauchen. In seiner Arbeit interpretiert Geist die Themen Zeit und Raum. Dabei verzichtet der Künstler auf den Einsatz von Leinwänden und projiziert direkt auf die Mauern des ältesten Bauwerks der Festung, den Rosenturm aus dem 13. Jahrhundert. Ebenso projiziert Geist auf weitere Teile des Innenhofs der Festung und auf Nebel. Die Verbindung zwischen der festen, greifbaren Wand und der transparenten, flüchtigen Projektionsfläche des Nebels verweist auf das Zusammenspiel zwischen historischen Relikten und unserer Vorstellung vom damaligen Leben. Die ziehenden Nebelschwaden stehen als Metapher für die Flüchtigkeit der Zeit und ihre Vergänglichkeit. Gleichzeitig ist Geschichte erlebbar, indem man die alten Zeiten anhand der steinernen Bauten vor seinem geistigen Auge wieder auferstehen lässt. Das Phänomen Zeit wird aber auch durch das projizierte Bild selbst beschrieben: Abstrakte Passagen, die sich aufbauen, überlagern und gegenseitig verdrängen, symbolisieren die ständigen Veränderungen im Lauf der Zeit und ihre Konstanten: das Entstehen und Vergehen. Verschiedene Bilder bleiben kurzfristig gleichzeitig stehen und bilden ein fragmentarisches Ganzes. Die Arbeit tritt so in einen Dialog mit dem Ort, denn auch die Festung Rosenberg wurde durch verschiedene Epochen hindurch ständig erweitert, und gerade der Rosenturm als Mittelpunkt der Festung änderte seine Gestalt mehrere Male. Der Dialog findet aber auch mit den Menschen statt, die in den Innenhof der Festung Rosenberg ein- und ausgehen: An der Schwelle zwischen Außen und Innen wird der Besucher selbst Teil des projizierten Bildes.
Philipp Geist entwickelte ebenso eine Licht- und Audio-Installation für die unterirdischen Festungsgänge, die nur selten zugänglich sind. Hier entsteht ein Zeittunnel, der von einer Seite aus begehbar ist. Die Besucher steigen hinab und verlieren die Orientierung, die durch Zeit und Raum vorgegeben ist. Die dunklen Gänge versetzen einen Jahrhunderte zurück, und man weiß nicht, wo in den Tiefen der Festung man sich befindet und an welcher Stelle man auftauchen wird. Zusätzlich verwirrt werden die Besucher der Installation durch Stimmen, die die Gänge mit Begriffen und Zitaten zum Thema Zeit füllen.
Philipp Geist arbeitet international als Licht- und Multimediakünstler. Im Dezember 2009 bespielte Geist über einen Zeitraum von neun Tagen den königlichen Thron in Bangkok mit einer Video-Mapping-Installation anlässlich des 82. Geburtstags des thailändischen Königs Bhumibol Adulyadej. Die Installation wurde von 2,5 Millionen Besuchern vor Ort gesehen. Im Juni 2010 zeigte er im Rahmen des internationalen Medien-Festivals Mutek die Außen-Installation ,Time Drifts' am Place des Arts im Zentrum von Montreal. Im Januar 2008 entwickelte Geist für die Piazzetta am Kulturforum in Berlin die Lichtinstallation 'Time Fades'. Im September 2007 bespielte er das zeitgenössische Kunstmuseum 'Palazzo delle Esposizioni' im Zentrum von Rom mit der Video-Mapping-Installation 'Time Lines'. Im Dezember 2005 realisierte er das Fassaden-Projekt 'Winterzauber' in Zürich. Im Februar 2006 eröffnete er im Kontext der Ausstellung 'Melancholie, Genie und Wahnsinn' den Salon Noir in der Neuen Nationalgalerie in Berlin. Gemeinsam mit dem Sinfonieorchester OBC Barcelona und der finnischen Soundformation Pan Sonic eröffnete Geist 2004 das Sonar Festival im Auditorium Barcelona. Geists Projekte sind in erster Linie gekennzeichnet durch ihre Komplexität in der Integration von Raum, Ton und Bewegbild.

Ulrike Mahr: Die in Kronach geborene Schauspielerin ist Initiatorin und Mitbegründerin der Faust-Festspiele Kronach sowie Gründungs- und Ensemblemitglied der Freien Werkbühne Kronach.
Von 1995-2004 war sie Co-Festspielleiterin und Ensemblemitglied der Faust-Festspiele. In diesen Aufbaujahren trug sie nicht zuletzt durch die Rolle des weiblichen Mephisto in Faust I und II, (war Logo und Markenzeichen) dazu bei, diese bundesweit bekannt zu machen.
Auftritte u.a. mit Mephisto/Faust-Performance, Soloprogramm als ?Agentin Jamie Bond" sowie Mitwirkung bei Theater- und Kurzfilmproduktionen in Hamburg, Frankfurt und Berlin. Sie lebt in Hamburg und Kronach und betätigt sich als Künstlerin neben dem Schwerpunkt Schauspielerei - v.a. für Film - auch in der Malerei und im Design. Mehrmalige Aufenthalte in Los Angeles und China führten zu Weiterbildung in Schauspiel und in den asiatischen Kampfkünsten.

Es handelt sich um intermediale Performances, eine Fusion zwischen elektronischer Musik, Video-Installationen und Percussion, welche ein beträchtliches Aufgebot an künstlerischen Strategien, Traditionen und Feinheiten aufweist. Die Künstler verwenden hierzu eine große Bandbreite an Medien und Technologien und teilen ihr leidenschaftliches Interesse für innovative Forschung auf diesem Gebiet untereinander, sowie mit ihrem Publikum.
Im Rahmen ihrer Performance erfassen sie Unterschiede, Ähnlichkeiten und Überschneidungen zwischen den verschiedenen kreativen Ausdrucksformen und stellen diese mittels verschiedener Medien dar.
What's happening? ist eine Fusion aus Musik, die das Auge hört, und Bildern, die das Ohr sieht.

What's happening? è un concerto multimediale in cui si incontrano tre forme di espressione: l'elettronica, la video-arte e le percussioni. I percorsi dei tre artisti coinvolti, pur partendo da ambiti di intervento differenti, sono accomunati dalla forte attenzione alla ricerca e all'interazione.
La struttura dello spettacolo è fissata ed i materiali da utilizzare (composizioni, brani di elettronica, video) sono stabiliti ma è all'interazione "live" e all'improvvisazione che viene lasciata la componente registica. C'è in questo progetto la volontà di una comunicazione del ricercare, si racconta e si rappresenta la tensione verso un linguaggio nuovo, verso l'interazione profonda tra linguaggi diversi.
What's happening? è musica per gli occhi da ascoltare e visioni per le orecchie da vedere.

The Künstlerhaus Lukas (Artists' House Luke) is a place of artistic work and international gathering. It promotes professional artists in the genres of fine arts, literature, dance and music through the awarding of residence scholarships and focuses on interesting cooperation between the different genres. Thereby, the international context with the Baltic littoral states lies in the center of attention.
An additional international exchange program on the one hand promotes above all artists from Mecklenburg/Western Pomerania with travel scholarships and on the other hand invites holders of scholarship from partner countries to Ahrenshoop. The Künstlerhaus Lukas (Artists' House Luke) helps promote artists to realize selected projects and gives them publicity in cooperation with national and international partner institutions.
The association Künstlerhaus Ahrenshoop (Artists' House) has been given responsibility for the Künstlerhaus Lukas (Artists' House Luke). From January 2006 onwards, the association will continue the experienced work of the Stiftung Kulturfonds, an official foundation for the promotion and financing of works of culture. The local authorities of Ahrenshoop provide for the preservation and maintenance of the building....

Pour moi, c'est important que les gens soient dans l'installation, c'est une caractéristique de ces oeuvres. Aussi j'utilise le sol, les murs et la fumée comme toile. The Berlin artist Philipp Geist presented his latest work, Time Drifts, a work composed of public

"I plan to words that refer to time in three languages, German, French and English, says

The Berlin-based artist Philipp Geist has developed his video installation 'Time Drifts' for the square Place Des Festival next to the Contemporary Art Museum in Montreal. In his installation Geist interprets the themes of space and time. He avoids using canvases and projects directly on parts of the facade, on the ground of the whole square, on stairs, and on fog streaming into the square.
The result is an interplay between the concrete, tangible wall/square and the transparent, dissolving projection ground. Words are projected onto the ground, and they are reflected into the fog. Fog is, similar to time, always in a flux, you cannot hold or keep it. This concept refers to the characteristics of museums and to their function as a place for conservation and for providing the visitor with both facts and imaginations: The dissolving projection ground symbolizes the fragmentary knowledge and understanding of life in the past and present, but knowledge is also secured and preserved in the form of text, clearly visible on the concrete. The people become part of the projected images while walking around the square and entering the building. Thus, Geist develops a dialogue with the location, his artistic work and the visitors.
This methodical approach to the theme 'time' is supported by the projected images themselves. Words that relate to the topic both directly and indirectly cover the whole ground of the square. Some terms and sentences are obvious references, some invite the visitor to think about the phenomenon of time and its historical and cultural connotations. This cultural consideration will be enhanced by the fact that the texts will be in the two official languages of Québec, English and French, and additionally in German, which is the artist's mother tongue. There will be single words, quotations and proverbs by various authors. The installation invites the visitors to stay and contemplate, to detect meanings in the thick carpet of partly overlapping words. The carpet's threads of words are woven chaotically, and it takes time and movements across the square to see and decipher them. It is the poetry of the texts and the dream-like atmosphere that will transform the location.
In the images which are projected onto the facade, Geist creates a pictorial, abstract imagery at the computer which also refers to time. Geometrical, spatial forms like squares, cubes, perforated planes, lines and rays, overlay each other in an on-going process and build up a complete picture in order to dissolve it right away. The various elements create a complex architecture of images which is always in a state of flux. By displaying depth and three-dimensionality, the work symbolises the constantly developing, enlarging space of continuing time lines, and represents the complex networks emerging from different spatial components spreading in the course of time.

Philipp Geist works internationally as a light and multi-media artist in the mediums of video, performance, photography and painting. The Berlin artist Philipp Geist (1976) showed a 4D mapping installation on the facade of the royal throne in Bangkok on the occasion of king Bhumibol's 82nd birthday in December 2009. The one-hour-show was the central part of the celebrations and was seen by 2-3 million of visitors. In 2008, during the 'Long Night of the Museums', he showed his video installation 'time fades' at the Kulturforum. In this installation Geist interprets the themes of space and time. He avoids using canvasses and projects directly on parts of the façade of the architecture and on transparent grounds like sheets of gauze and fog.In September 2007, he realized the video installation 'Time Lines' on the entire front of the Palazzo delle Espozioni in Rome at its re-opening after it had been closed for five years. The installation was opened by the mayor of Rome, Walter Veltroni, and was seen by approx. 20.000 visitors. In 2005, he realized the large project 'Winterzauber' ('Winter Magic') for the Lake Side Restaurant in Zurich and in 2006, he opened the Salon Noir within the context of the exhibition 'Melancholie, Genie und Wahnsinn' ('Melancholy, Genius and Insanity') in the Berlin Neuen National Galerie. Together with the symphony orchestra OBC Barcelona and the Finnish sound ensemble Pan Sonic, Geist opened in 2004 the Sonar Festival in Barcelona. His works were shown at the Dissonanze Festival in Rome, at Clubtransmediale in Berlin and at the Mutek Festival in Montreal which is renowned for new media. He has exhibited his live video performances internationally at the Central House of Artists (CHA) in Moscow, the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) in London, the National Gallery in Warsaw (Zacheta) and at the opening of the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich.Further projects are characterized by their complexity and the integration of the location, the sound and moving images.

The installation invites the visitors to stay and contemplate, to detect meanings in the thick carpet of partly overlapping words. The carpet's threads of words are woven chaotically, and it takes time and movements across the square to see and decipher them. It is the poetry of the texts and the dream-like atmosphere that will transform the location.
In the images which are projected onto the facade, Geist creates a pictorial, abstract imagery at the computer which also refers to time. Geometrical, spatial forms like squares, cubes, perforated planes, lines and rays, overlay each other in an on-going process and build up a complete picture in order to dissolve it right away. The various elements create a complex architecture of images which is always in a state of flux. By displaying depth and three-dimensionality, the work symbolises the constantly developing, enlarging space of continuing time lines, and represents the complex networks emerging from different spatial components spreading in the course of time.
MUTEK the EXTRA_MUROS program of outdoor media art and installations by PHILIPP GEIST, MELISSA MONGIAT and MOUNA ANDRAOS was frequented by more than 40,000 people. With all its different initiatives in outdoor programming, MUTEK demonstrated that it could leave its special fingerprint on the Quartier des Spectacles by putting digital creativity on the centre stage.

Philipp Geist works internationally as a light and multi-media artist in the mediums of video, performance, photography and painting. The Berlin artist Philipp Geist (1976) showed a 4D mapping installation on the facade of the royal throne in Bangkok on the occasion of king Bhumibol's 82nd birthday in December 2009. The one-hour-show was the central part of the celebrations and was seen by 2-3 million of visitors. In 2008, during the 'Long Night of the Museums', he showed his video installation 'time fades' at the Kulturforum. In this installation Geist interprets the themes of space and time. He avoids using canvasses and projects directly on parts of the façade of the architecture and on transparent grounds like sheets of gauze and fog.In September 2007, he realized the video installation 'Time Lines' on the entire front of the Palazzo delle Espozioni in Rome at its re-opening after it had been closed for five years. The installation was opened by the mayor of Rome, Walter Veltroni, and was seen by approx. 20.000 visitors. In 2005, he realized the large project 'Winterzauber' ('Winter Magic') for the Lake Side Restaurant in Zurich and in 2006, he opened the Salon Noir within the context of the exhibition 'Melancholie, Genie und Wahnsinn' ('Melancholy, Genius and Insanity') in the Berlin Neuen National Galerie. Together with the symphony orchestra OBC Barcelona and the Finnish sound ensemble Pan Sonic, Geist opened in 2004 the Sonar Festival in Barcelona. His works were shown at the Dissonanze Festival in Rome, at Clubtransmediale in Berlin and at the Mutek Festival in Montreal which is renowned for new media. He has exhibited his live video performances internationally at the Central House of Artists (CHA) in Moscow, the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) in London, the National Gallery in Warsaw (Zacheta) and at the opening of the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich.Further projects are characterized by their complexity and the integration of the location, the sound and moving images.

The Berlin-based artist Philipp Geist has developed his video installation 'Time Drifts' for the square Place Des Festival next to the Contemporary Art Museum in Montreal. In his installation Geist interprets the themes of space and time. He avoids using canvases and projects directly on parts of the facade, on the ground of the whole square, on stairs, and on fog streaming into the square.
The result is an interplay between the concrete, tangible wall/square and the transparent, dissolving projection ground. Words are projected onto the ground, and they are reflected into the fog. Fog is, similar to time, always in a flux, you cannot hold or keep it. This concept refers to the characteristics of museums and to their function as a place for conservation and for providing the visitor with both facts and imaginations: The dissolving projection ground symbolizes the fragmentary knowledge and understanding of life in the past and present, but knowledge is also secured and preserved in the form of text, clearly visible on the concrete. The people become part of the projected images while walking around the square and entering the building. Thus, Geist develops a dialogue with the location, his artistic work and the visitors.
This methodical approach to the theme 'time' is supported by the projected images themselves. Words that relate to the topic both directly and indirectly cover the whole ground of the square. Some terms and sentences are obvious references, some invite the visitor to think about the phenomenon of time and its historical and cultural connotations. This cultural consideration will be enhanced by the fact that the texts will be in the two official languages of Québec, English and French, and additionally in German, which is the artist's mother tongue. There will be single words, quotations and proverbs by various authors.
