I would like to inform you about my past and upcoming projects in my first newsletter in 2021. In the last weeks and months I was able to implement various projects, other projects unfortunately had to be postponed again. In Eisenach, after a delay of several weeks, my video room installation for the 800th anniversary of St. Elisabeth of Thuringia, was opened in the Predigerkirche Museum. The installation 'But now you are light. Elisabeth 'can be seen until the end of August. At the end of July I will show a projection mapping installation on the outside facade on the subject of installation over 2 evenings. 'But now you are light. Elisabeth ' On July 24th I will show a live video installation at the European Weeks in Passau as part of the 69th Festival European Weeks Passau. The group exhibition with Elisabeth Sonneck and Andreas Schmid was on view from March 1st to September 13th in the museum in Otterndorf. There I showed fine art prints, moving image projections and my immersive installation 'inBetween'. At the end of May I was able to implement a large-format live video mapping installation in Norway, Bergen, for the concert 'Let's Play' on the occasion of the BERGEN INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL. The Let's Play project was implemented with the conductor Eímear Noone & Talenten with the Bergen Philharmonic. Last year I was able to give a lecture for Talents Norge about my work and my artistic path. This can be seen online. Die Gruppenausstellung mit Elisabeth Sonneck und Andreas Schmid war letztes Jahr vom 01. März und bis zum 13. September im Museum in Otterndorf zu sehen. Dort zeigte ich Fine Art Prints, Bewegbild-Projektionen und meine immersive Installation 'inBetween'. Ende Mai konnte ich in Norwegen Bergen ein grossformatige Live Video-Mapping-Installation zu dem Konzert 'Let's Play' anlässlich des BERGEN INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL umsetzen. Das Projekt Let's Play wurde mit der Dirigentin Eímear Noone & Talenten mit dem Bergen Philharmonikern umgesetzt. Bereits letztes Jahr konnte ich für Talents Norge einen Vortrag über meine Arbeiten und meinen künstlerischen Weg halten. Dieser ist online zu sehen. Ich spreche in dem ca. 30 minütigen Film über meinen Werdegang von meiner ersten Ausstellung im Wald bis zu meinen heutigen Arbeiten. Elisabeth' Die Idee eines Lichtraumes Philipp Geist, Berlin Predigerkirche Der Lichtkünstler Philipp Geist entwickelt in seiner Ausstellung 'Nun aber seid ihr Licht. Elisabeth' in der Predigerkirche einen begehbaren Lichtraum. Der Besucher taucht in eine mehrdimensionale Farb-Raum-Welt ein. Geists Lichtkunst-Installation setzt sich aus malerischen und integrierten Bild- elementen ausgewählter Kunstwerke zusammen, die digital bearbeitet werden. Somit entstehen minimal-puristische, teils farbintensive, traumartige und schemenhaft-zerbrechliche Bildkom- positionen. Kunstwerke werden so aus einer neuen zeitgenössischen Sicht wahrgenommen und künstlerisch interpretiert. Philipp Geist, geboren 1976 in Witten, lebt seit 1999 in Berlin und Weilheim. Der Künstler arbeitet welt- weit mit den Medien Video / Lichtkunstillumination, Fotografie und Malerei. The award-winning Irish conductor and composer Eímear Noone is known for her work in film and gaming music, with titles such as World of Warcraft and The Legend of Zelda on her resumé. On the programme this evening are gaming music and visual installations that will take your breath away. The music is from several of the world's most popular games, and Grieghallen is bathed in video mapping performed by light and video artist Philipp Geist. On the podium with Noone stand four of the greatest conductor talents in Norway. Guro Haugli, Daniel Reith, Hannah Andresen and Aage Richard Meyer are all participants in Dirigentforum (Conductor Forum), a talent development program where young conductors learn from the best. They have worked with Noone throughout the spring and lead the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra through magnificent works and playful melodies written by living composers for gaming series such as World of Warcraft, Halo and Assassin's Creed, as well as classics such as Tetris, Pokémon and Super Mario. Bereits 2007 stellten Andreas Schmid, 2011 Phillip Geist und 2012 Elisabeth Sonneck in Einzelausstellungen im Museum gegenstandsfreier Kunst ihr Oeuvre vor.Dem Museum gelang es, die Künstlerin und Künstler zu einem gemeinsamen Projekt erneut in das MgK einzuladen. Alle leben und arbeiten in Berlin und entwickelten dort ein Konzept, das im Parterre ihre Arbeiten in Korrespondenz bringt. In den oberen Räumen werden jeweils einzelne Installationen gezeigt. Ihre unmittelbare Auseinandersetzung mit Farbe und Licht, Bewegung und Raum werden sich so auf den zwei Etagen des Museums wiederfinden und die BesucherInnen in optischer und physischer Aktion in ihren Bann ziehen. ------ ??? = !!! In der Evangelischen Augustinerkirche zu Erfurt wird “Der andere Advent” mit kurzen Gottesdiensten gefeiert. Dazu wird der Lichtkünstler Philipp Geist die Kirche in ein “Adventsleuchten” verwandeln. Die Adventsvespern (Andachten) sind vom 28. November bis 31. Dezember, und zwar immer mittwochs bis sonntags um 18.00 Uhr. Einlass ist bereits um 16.00 Uhr. Zu den kurzen Adventsandachten wird es jeweils besondere Musik geben. “Wir sind froh, dass wir Philipp Geist für diesen ‘anderen Advent’ in der Augustinerkirche gewinnen konnten”, sagt Augustinerpfarrer Bernd Prigge. “Für alle Erfurterinnen und Erfurter sind die kurzen Andachten eine wunderbare Möglichkeit, sich auf Weihnachten vorzubereiten.” Die Licht-Installation wird möglich durch großzügige Unterstützung der Sparkasse Mittelthüringen und der Stadtwerke Erfurt. Für seine künstlerische Arbeit zum Thema Advent und Weihnachten projiziert Philipp Geist mit Videoprojektoren abstrahierte malerische Bildkompositionen, Begriffe der Adventszeit und der Weihnachtsgeschichte im Inneren der Kirche. Sie erscheinen auf Wänden, im Altarraum und auf transparenten Gazestoffen, die von der Decke hängen. “Die Besucher erwarten wechselnde, teils minimal-puristische, teils traumhafte und schemenhaft zerbrechliche Bildkompositionen”, so Geist. Sinnliche Kerzen, die den Kirchenraum mit Projektionen großflächig überziehen gehören genauso dazu wie abstrakte, malerische Bildkompositionen, die inhaltlich die besinnliche Zeit aufgreifen. Der Berliner Künstler geht damit einen Dialog ein zwischen der Architektur, dem Kirchenraum, seiner künstlerischen Arbeit und den Besuchern. Oktober 2020 Aëria - Philipp Geist, Berlin Sonderausstellung im Erdgeschoss Philipp Geist arbeitet seit 1996 weltweit als Künstler mit den Medien Projection Mapping / Lichtkunst, sowie mit Fotografie und Malerei. Er ist einer der Pioniere unter den Video-Mapping Künstlern. Geists Projekte sind in erster Linie gekennzeichnet durch ihre Komplexität in der Integration von Raum, Ton und Bewegtbild. Im Außenbereich verwandelt er die Architekturen in bewegte, malerische Leuchtskulpturen, die die Wahrnehmung der Betrachter in Zwei- und Dreidimensionalität herausfordern. Unter anderem wurden bereits die Christus-Statue in Rio de Janeiro, der Dom in Köln und der Römer in Frankfurt erleuchtet, ebenso das Nürnberger Rathaus und Gebäude in Iran, Indien und Bangladesh. Für die Ausstellung im Luftmuseum hat Geist eine begehbare Installation mit transparenten Stoffen, Prints und Filmen entworfen, ebenso zeigt er die "Hidden Places"-Serie, weitere abstrakte Projektionen sowie eine Rückschau bisheriger Arbeiten. In his light art installation Geist interprets the themes of space and time. He avoids using canvases and projects directly on the facade Basilique Saint Pierre, on the tree, the ground and fog streaming into the plaza. Words are projected onto the ground and visitors, and they are reflected into the fog. Fog is, similar to time, always in a flux, you cannot hold or keep it. The dissolving projection symbolizes the fragmentary knowledge and understanding of life in the past and present, but knowledge is also secured and preserved in the form of text, clearly visible on the concrete. The representations of history are being animated in the moment of the visitors reflections. The dissolving projection symbolizes not only the fragmentary knowledge and understanding of the life in the past, which is to be completed, but also the memory which must be saved from disappearing and dissolving. Thus, Geist develops a dialogue with the location, his artistic work and the people who are entering and leaving the gate and the square. The visitors can be part of the installation by sending beforehand words via email. The visitor himself becomes part of the projected image on the square. Words and abstract light painting with create an immersive room. This methodical approach to the theme 'time' is supported by the projected images themselves. Words that relate to the topic both directly and indirectly cover the whole ground of the square. Some terms and sentences are obvious references, some invite the visitor to think about the phenomenon of time and its historical and cultural connotations. There will be single words, quotations and proverbs. Words like „transition, fading, becoming, simultaneous, timeless, time gate, metamorphosis, period of time, entrance, beginning,..“ The installation invites the visitors to stay and contemplate, to detect meanings in the thick carpet of partly overlapping words, it asks the visitors to create their own sentences and imagination. The carpet's threads of words are woven chaotically, and it takes time and movements across the square to see and decipher them. It is the poetry of the texts and the dream-like atmosphere that will transform the location. For the Avignon installation, words of time and space in different languages french, english, german,... In Avignon and its long history and its special meaning the topic of time in a artistic poetic light installation is inspiring. The the installation creates a bridge between the past and the present between cultural understandings and worlds. In the images which are projected onto the Basilique, Geist creates a pictorial, abstract imagery on the computer which also refers to time. Geometrical, spatial forms like squares, cubes, perforated planes, lines and rays, overlay each other in an on-going process and build up a complete picture in order to dissolve it right away. The various elements create a complex architecture of images which is always in a state of flux. By displaying depth and three-dimensionality, the work symbolises the constantly developing, enlarging space of continuing time lines, and represents the complex networks emerging from different spatial components spreading in the course of time. The installation project is part of a series of installations named Time Drifts. Ganz besonders bei der andauernden Hidden Places Serie, die ohne Publikum auf einzelnen Blumen, ehemaligen Wachtürmen, Schiffswracks und Ruinen, an versteckten Orten umgesetzt werden. In temporary, ephemeral light art projects, photo and video documentaries are essential to capture the moment. I spend hours and days photographing the respective installations, some of which only last a few hours or days, with my personal view. Works are created that are essential for my work in temporary locations and projects. The photo works are, so to speak, the sustainable nectar of the fleeting projects. Especially with the ongoing Hidden Places series, which are implemented in hidden places on individual flowers, former watchtowers, shipwrecks and ruins without an audience.
