Still current
From January 24th to June 15th, 2023 my long-term water video project Riverine Zones will be shown in the media art foyer of White & Case LLP in Berlin. The multi-channel installation can be seen from Monday to Friday 2-6 p.m. after telephone registration (+49308809110). I have been working on my Riverine Zones water project since 2006. Since 2016 I have been able to film over 30 rivers worldwide.

review
On February 24th / 25th I showed the installation Time Drifts Oldenburg at the Landesmuseum Oldenburg. The installation took place on the occasion of the 100th anniversary. For the installation, I called on Oldenburg citizens to contribute terms and words and also portrayed many Oldenburg citizens. The terms and the portraits were integrated into my abstract pictorial worlds alongside the exhibits in the museum and historical terms.

Wednesday 8th March I performed with the National Symphony Orchestra and eight other Irish artists in honor of International Women's Day at the National Concert Hall. With award-winning Irish composer and conductor Eímear Noone. 'Daughters of the Pirate Queen: The Spirit of Grace O'Malley' I also showed a live visual art installation

On March 9th I was part of the performance project entitled 'responsible:I' on the occasion of the 5th Synodal Assembly of the Synodal Path, the German Bishops' Conference in the St. Bartholomäus Cathedral in Frankfurt.

In addition, I work on my analog pictures. New series of painted paper works and acrylic works have emerged.

All the best and LightsON!

Philipp Geist

Fine Art Works
Through my online shop I offer paintings on canvas and paper as well as fine art prints and led light boxes from previous installations and
digital paintings / video stills. I worked on new digital images, but also on analogue images such as painting on canvas and on paper. Added
A new series of overpainted prints has arrived, in which my different working techniques complement each other: painting, photography, installation and
art print. The overpainting makes the prints unique.

BEFLÜGELND
Do., 25.

Was verleiht dir Flügel?
Was gibt dir Schwung?
Wo ist deine Kraftquelle?
Was drückt dich nieder – wo hast du Geistkraft dringend nötig?
Damals wie heute feiert Pfingsten das, was die Menschen bewegt, was sie beseelt und begeistert und was sie deshalb weitertragen, so dass es sich immer weiter ausbreitet.

INSPIRING
Thursday, May 25 to Sunday, June 11, 2023, 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m
A walk-in room installation by Philipp Geist
on the occasion of the "Carnival of Cultures" on the Pentecost weekend

INSPIRING! Invitation to the ceremonial opening of the walk-in room installation
Only a few days left - then it's time!

Next Thursday, May 25th, the time has finally come and we will be opening this year's Pentecost project with a celebration.

We cordially invite you all to do so. It starts at 8 p.m. in the St. Bonifatius church. Let yourself be "inspired" by the light art with short musical improvisations and a glass of wine.

We look forward to you!
Transparent and abstract wings made of gauze are suspended from the church ceiling and indicate the dynamic of the Holy Spirit, but also invite visitors to individual interpretations.

To this end, the artist projects concepts and wafting pictorial compositions onto walls, columns, the church ceiling, fleeting theater fog, and the wings. This creates the effect that images appear out of nowhere and disappear again. Musical accompaniment reinforces the impression of this installation.

Visitors can move under the wings and thus become part of the work of art.

This project is being realized in cooperation with the Berlin light artist Philipp Geist. It offers an unusual form of preaching and enables special spiritual experiences.

What gives you wings?
What gives you momentum?
where is your power source
What is weighing you down – where do you urgently need spiritual strength?

Then as now, Pentecost celebrates what moves people, what inspires and inspires them and what they therefore carry on, so that it spreads more and more.

Light art installation 'Time Drifts Oldenburg' as part of the centenary of the Landesmuseum in Oldenburg 2023

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary, the Berlin artist Philipp Geist developed a poetic-painterly light-video installation on the facade of the State Museum in Oldenburg. An artistic interaction is created between the historic facade and the audio-visual content of the mapping projection. An immersive light room is planned, a walk-in light installation that invites visitors to immerse themselves in the artist's world of light. The visitors who are in front of the State Museum, the Oldenburg Castle, become part of the projection. Terms, words and associations related to the themes of the Oldenburg State Museum are projected onto the floor and onto the visitors. For this purpose, a projection is made onto the floor of the Schlossplatz. The State Museum has been located in the historic castle for 100 years. Many historical events have passed this testimony of Oldenburg's history. The inclusion of historical moments in the pictorial compositions, the integration of portraits of personalities, dates and historical terms creates a historical connection. The place is transformed into a changing space of light and encounter. The facade mapping, which traces the elements from the historical architecture, reinforces the architecture and sets it in motion out of balance. The museum stands for preserving the history and culture of the city, as well as conveying and communicating the past. The artistic installation connects history with the present and the modern possibilities to create an artistic space of experience. The projected terms and thought fragments deal with complexity and multiple perspectives, with the stories and faces of the city.
Public participation is very important. Words and terms were called out to the population of Oldenburg prior to the installation. Furthermore, current portraits of Oldenburg citizens were made, which are integrated into the installation. The installation is musically composed by a music composition by Lukas Taido with the narrator Mathias Kopetzki. The installation is about an associative interpretation of Oldenburg's history, with the exhibits of the collection and the integration of current terms and portraits. which are integrated into the abstract-painterly picture compositions and the visualized elements, which are partly shadowy, partly figurative.
Geist's projects are primarily characterized by their complexity in the integration of space, sound and moving images. His video mapping installations transform a wide variety of architecture and locations worldwide into moving, picturesque light sculptures that challenge the viewer's perception of two and three dimensions.

On International Women's Day, the National Symphony Orchestra, in association with Polyarts, presents eight of Ireland’s top female performers – led by award-winning Irish composer and conductor Eímear Noone – in a major new performance which brings together their very different lived and musical experiences to tackle the turbulent tale of the Wild Atlantic Way in Daughters of the Pirate Queen: The Spirit of Grace O’Malley.

The soundscape of this genre-defying concert will centre on cinematic orchestral storytelling through music, narrative, and song, with indie rock, pop, and folk influences throughout the score. Bringing together Irish artists from different musical genres to co-write songs inspired by one of the greatest Irish women to have ever lived brings a unique, but essentially Irish flavour to the work. For example, iconic Irish songwriter Eleanor McEvoy has collaborated with Eímear Noone to write a song for performance by Emma Langford.

In the spirit of the great woman herself, the music is at times evocative, poetic, rhythmic, and exhilarating. An emotional ride, it seeks to embrace both the literal and metaphorical storms Granuaile rode and tamed in her complicated, glorious life.

The show’s creator, Eímear Noone, says of this deeply personal artistic journey, ‘What Grace O’Malley achieved in her lifetime has been a constant inspiration to me and getting deeply into her life with some of my favourite Irish women artists has proven that her fierce spirit lives in us all, and this music has her indomitable energy running through it. It is not limited by genre or label as neither was she.

It is important to me that great Irish women are memorialized and celebrated so that future generations can harness their passions and take ownership of their heritage.

Daughter, lover, mother, leader – Grace O’Malley was all of these things and so much more; not a myth, but a flesh-and-blood Irish woman. The fierce heart of the pirate queen resides in us all. Therefore, we are all her daughters’.

Anthony Long, General Manager, National Symphony Orchestra & Choirs: ‘I am very pleased that our second annual International Women’s Day Concert will be a collaboration with Eímear Noone and a very exciting ensemble of special guests. Eímear is a unique talent in the field of conducting and composition. This project epitomises the celebration of women and we believe that it will be an incredible show that will be repeated the world over. I would like to thank Eímear, Craig Stuart Garfinkle and the team at Polyarts for helping to bring this project to fruition.’

FINE ART PRINTS
Eingefangene Momente - Captured moments

In temporary, ephemeral light art projects, photo and video documentaries are essential to capture the moment. I spend hours and days photographing the respective installations, some of which only last a few hours or days, with my personal view. Works are created that are essential for my work in temporary locations and projects. The photo works are, so to speak, the sustainable nectar of the fleeting projects. Especially with the ongoing Hidden Places series, which are implemented in hidden places on individual flowers, former watchtowers, shipwrecks and ruins without an audience.
