I would like to inform you about past and upcoming projects.

in this year I could start with an exciting video mapping installation 'LUCE LUNA' on 1st Jan 2019 on Tiberina Island (Insola Tiberina). On 18th February,

a Yellow Lounge will take place in Hong Kong, this time with Rafal Blechacz & Bomsori Kim. On 21th February the group exhibition 'spiritual * digital' will

start in Kunstverein Wolfsburg, where I will contribute my light installation inBetween and photographic works of my installations.

On 21th March the concert 'The Elements' with the Nordic Pulse Ensemble, the conductor Kristjan Järvi and the soloist Mikhail Simonyan will take place

in the Tschaikowski Concert Hall in Moscow.

Currently I am also working on art prints of my installation and photo works. These are available as Fine Art Print or lightbox.

gerne möchte ich über vergangene und anstehende Projekte informieren.

Das Jahr 2019 konnte ich mit einem spannenden VideoMapping Installation 'LUCE LUNA' an der Tiber Insel (Insola Tiberina) am 01.Januar 2019

beginnen. Am Montag, der 18.Februar, findet in Hong Kong eine Yellow Lounge statt, dieses mal mit Rafał Blechacz & Bomsori Kim. Am 21. Februar startet

die Gruppenausstellung 'spiritual * digital' im Kunstverein Wolfsburg, bei der ich meine Lichtinstallation inBetween und Fotoarbeiten meiner Lichtkunst-

Installationen beisteuere. Am 21.März findet in Moskau das Konzert 'The Elements' mit dem Nordic Pulse Ensemble, dem Dirigenten Kristjan Järvi und

dem Solisten Mikhail Simonyan im Tschaikowski Konzerthaus statt.

Des Weiteren arbeite ich ebenfalls an Kunst-Drucken zu meinen Installations- und Fotoarbeiten. Diese sind als Fine Art Print oder Leuchtkasten erhältlich.

Auf dem ersten Blick wirken die Bezeichnungen spirituell und digital tendenziell gegensätzlich. Blickt man jedoch auf die Geschichte der

igitalen Bildkultur, so fällt die Präsenz spiritueller, kosmischer und psychedelischer Komponenten auf. Eine visuelle Richtung, die später

mit den Visuals in Clubs der elektronischen Musik ihre Fortsetzung fand.

ie Pioniere der Computertechnologie, die in den 1970ern und 1980ern im Silicon Valley tätig waren, waren nicht nur von den Möglichkeiten

der neuen Technologien und den von ihr geschaffenen virtuellen Räumen begeistert, sie fühlten sich vielfach auch der Hippie-Kultur und

ernöstlichen Glaubensrichtungen verbunden. Mit dem häufig verwendeten Begriff der „Kalifornischen Ideologie“ versucht man diese

zunächst polar erscheinenden Momente der Technikeuphorie und der spirituellen Intentionen zusammenzubringen. Eng damit verknüpft

mit die Idee, durch neue Informationstechnologien eine neue, freiere Welt zu schaffen.

Der virtuelle Raum ist zunächst unbesetzt und kann so mit neuen Bedeutungen, Hoffnungen und Zielen belegt werden. Dabei stellt sich die

Frage, inwieweit Technologien unser spirituelles Bewusstsein verändern können. Im Unterschied zu Materialisten, die die Religion als

virtuelle Realität (also nicht von dieser Welt) titulierten, bezeichnete der Ästhetiktheoretiker und Künstler Bazon Brock Religion als reale

Virtualität. Dabei kann man Verbindungen zwischen der „realen Virtualität“ der Religion und der von Computern geschaffenen virtuellen

Welt herstellen. Vergleichbar mit den digitalen virtuellen Welten wird Spiritualität durch Erfahrungen geprägt. Dabei spielt das Erlebnis

als individuelle Existenz in der Totalität des Universums eine wichtige Rolle. Der Blick auf den unendlichen Kosmos erzeugt beim

Menschen oftmals Fragen nach dem Sinn seiner Existenz.

Die Künstler*innen der Ausstellung spiritual * digital beschäftigen sich in ihren künstlerischen, digitalen Arbeiten auf sehr unterschiedliche

Weise mit spirituellen Themen. Jörg Brinkmann, Herder-Förderpreisträger im Jahr 2012, bezieht sich wie in seinem Video „Entschleunigter

Moses“ immer wieder direkt auf Religion oder evoziert spirituelle Momente mit Hilfe einer VR-Brille. Muhannad Shonos „Ritual Machine“

demonstriert mit vier in Zusammenarbeit mit einem Robotik-Professor entwickelten, sich synchronisierenden Apparaten, wie schnell

der Einzelne in eine rituelle Handlung eingebunden werden kann. Philipp Geist der weltweit in und an zahlreichen sakralen Architekturen

Lichtkunstprojekte realisierte, präsentiert im Kunstverein Wolfsburg einen begehbaren Lichtraum. Dabei entsteht ein Zusammenspiel

zwischen den Besuchern bzw. deren Schattenbildern und den Projektionen abstrakter Licht- und Textstrukturen. Die Künstlerin

Rui Zhang verbindet auf verblüffende Weise altchinesische, buddhistische Bildtraditionen mit Motiven neuester Technologien. Die

Musikerin und Künstlerin Polina Lapkovskaja arbeitet mit sphärischen digitalen Klängen, sogenannten Binauralbeats, die direkt auf

bestimmte Bereiche des menschlichen Gehirns einwirken. An das Ohr dringt Schall mit leicht unterschiedlicher Frequenz. Diesen

Sounds wird nachgesagt, sie könnten im Unterbewussten spezielle Gefühle erzeugen. Bei der Eröffnung singt Lapkovskaja aka

Pollyester als dritte Komponente zum stereophonen Sound. Die scheinbar meditative, mehrstündige Performance hat jenseits des

akustischen Erlebnisses eine manipulative Note, mit der die in München lebende Künstlerin experimentiert.

At first glance, the terms spiritually and digitally tend to be opposites. However, looking at the history of digital image culture, the

presence of spiritual, cosmic and psychedelic components is striking. A visual direction, which later continued with the visuals in

electronic music clubs. The pioneers of computer technology working in the Silicon Valley in the 1970s and 1980s were not only

thrilled with the potential of new technologies and the virtual spaces they created, they also felt connected to hippie culture and

Far Eastern beliefs. The term 'California Ideology', which is often used, attempts to bring together these seemingly polar moments

of technical euphoria and spiritual intentions. Closely linked to this is the idea of creating a new, freer world through new information

technologies.

The virtual space is initially unoccupied and can be occupied with new meanings, hopes and goals. This raises the question of how

much technology can change our spiritual consciousness. In contrast to materialists who called religion as a virtual reality (not of this

world), the aesthetic theorist and artist Bazon Brock described religion as real virtuality. In doing so, one can establish connections

between the 'real virtuality' of religion and the virtual world created by computers. Like the digital virtual worlds, spirituality is shaped

by experience. The experience as an individual existence plays an important role in the totality of the universe. The view of the infinite

cosmos often generates questions about the meaning of its existence.

The artists of the exhibition spiritual * digital deal with spiritual themes in very different ways in their artistic, digital works. Joerg Brinkmann,

Herder Prize Winner in 2012, refers directly to religion as in his video 'Decelerated Moses' or evokes spiritual moments with the help of

VR glasses. Muhannad Shono's 'Ritual Machine' demonstrates, with four synchronizing devices developed in collaboration with a robotics

professor, how quickly an individual can be involved in a ritual act. Philipp Geist, who realized light art projects worldwide in numerous sacral

architectures, presents a walk-in light room in the Kunstverein Wolfsburg. This creates an interaction between the visitors or their silhouettes

and the projections of abstract light and text structures. The artist Rui Zhang combines in an astonishing way ancient Chinese Buddhist

pictorial traditions with motifs of the latest technologies. The musician and artist Polina Lapkovskaja works with spherical digital sounds,

so-called binaural beats, which directly affect certain areas of the human brain. Sound penetrates the ear with slightly different frequencies.

These sounds are said to create special feelings in the subconscious. At the opening, Lapkovskaya aka Pollyester sings as a third component

to the stereophonic sound. The seemingly meditative, multi-hour performance has a manipulative touch beyond the acoustic experience, with

which the artist living in Munich experimented.

Il berlinese Philipp Geist è un artista ormai acclamato in tutto il mondo. In occasione della notte di San Silvestro 2016/2017 Geist ha proiettato sul Duomo di Colonia l’installazione Time Drifts Cologne. Ha realizzato moltissime installazioni artistiche luminose: a Dakar/Senegal in occasione di Art Dakar, a Puna/India in occasione del festival della luce di Diwali, nel 2015 Gate of Words/torre di A17-22h

adi a Teheran, in Iran.

Nel 2014 ha creato a Rio de Janeiro una video installazione con la statua di Cristo Redentore, famosa in tutto il mondo, proiettandola in grandi dimensioni su una favela. A Dhaka, in Bangladesh, nel 2014 ha realizzato l’installazione “Hidden Places” sulle rovine di un palazzo. Geist ha ricevuto nel 2013 il premio tedesco di design dedicato alla luce nella categoria light art.

A novembre del 2014 in occasione dei 25 anni dall’apertura del muro di Berlino ha proiettato un’installazione artistica luminosa all’ambasciata tedesca di Praga e a settembre del 2014 nel Bauhaus Museum di Dessau la grande installazione COLORE FACCIATA FIGURA. Nel 2009 Geist ha realizzato una proiezione sul Palazzo del trono a Bangkok in occasione del compleanno del re tailandese Bhumibol.

The Berlin Philipp Geist is an acclaimed artist all over the world. On the occasion of the New Year's Eve 2016/2017, Geist projected the Time Drifts Cologne installation on the Cologne Cathedral. He has realized many lighting installations: in Dakar / Senegal on the occasion of Art Dakar, in Puna / India on the occasion of the Diwali light festival, in 2015 Gate of Words / Azadi Tower in Tehran, Iran.

In 2014 he created a video installation in Rio de Janeiro with the statue of Christ the Redeemer, famous all over the world, projecting it in large dimensions on a favela. In Dhaka, Bangladesh, in 2014 he made the installation 'Hidden Places' on the ruins of a building. In 2013, Geist received the German design award dedicated to light in the light art category.

In November 2014, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the opening of the Berlin Wall, he projected a luminous artistic installation at the German embassy in Prague and in September 2014 at the Bauhaus Museum in Dessau the large installation COLOR FACADE FIGURE. In 2009 Geist realized a projection on the Palace of the throne in Bangkok on the occasion of the birthday of the Thai king Bhumibol.

Now a small review of the year 2018, which was another exciting year with thrilling and inspiring projects:

At the Dubai Opera and the Emirate Palace Auditorium in Abu Dhabi, I collaborated on two sensational concerts with the Baltic Sea

Philharmonics, soloist Mikhail Simonyan and conductor Kristjan Järvi, and implemented a large-scale live artistic video installation.

With Yellow Lounge and Deutsche Grammophon, I was in Beijing with Daniel Hope and Peter Gregson (Sept 18) and in Shanghai with

Yuja Wang and Andreas Ottensamer (Nov 2018). A special highlight this year was undoubtedly the second Light Art Festival in Weilheim,

with over 40,000 visitors on two evenings, during which I was the artistic director and contributing artist. Other highlights were the

“Feldkirch Fades” installation during the 1^st Light City of Feldkirch Festival, “200 years Kempten” at the Residenz, a monastery complex,

“Time Drifts Jerusalem” on the occasion of “In Lights”, the 10^th Light Art Festival in Jerusalem, my double project at the Steinerne Brücke

and the Museum of Bavarian History in Regensburg, the “inBetween” and “Riverine Zones” installations at the European House of Art in

Freising, and the “Frankfurt Drifts” walk-in installation at the Römer, a medieval landmark in Frankfurt, with approx. 250,000 visitors.

Nun ein kleiner Rückblick auf das Jahr 2018, es war wieder ein spannendes Jahr mit aufregenden und inspirierenden Projekten:

'inBetween‘ und 'Riverine Zones' in Freising am Europäisches Künstlerhaus in Freising und anlässlich der Luminale meine begehbare

Installation 'Frankfurt Drifts' am Frankfurter Römer mit ca. 250.000 Besuchern.
