I would like to inform you about my past and upcoming projects.
In the last few weeks I was able to implement a number of projects and installations. In Avignon on the occasion of the Helios Festival I showed the installation 'Time Drifts Avignon' for 5 weeks. On August 2nd, I realized a light installation at the memorial for the Sinti and Roma of Europe murdered under National Socialism on the occasion of a memorial hour on August 2nd, 2020. Further projects were in Celle at the art museum and in Amberg in the Luftmuseum. The exhibition in the Air Museum in Amberg can be viewed until October 25th. In my solo exhibition 'Aëria' I show fine art prints, light boxes and walk-in video room installations. The exhibition in the museum of non-representational art in Otterndorf has now come to an end.
This weekend I will continue my Hidden Places series as part of the Berlin Leuchtet festival in Berlin. Among them I will be active in Treptow, Adlershof and Treptower Park.

On October 3rd, on the occasion of the official ceremony for the 30th anniversary of the reunification, I will realize an approximately 1 hour installation. With the German Babelsberg Film Orchestra and Mark Forster, Mia and Roland Kaiser. The program will be broadcast live on TV ARD 3.10 from 12 noon.

Gerne möchte ich über meine vergangenen und anstehenden Projekte informieren.
In den letzten Wochen konnte ich einige Projekte und Installationen umsetzen. In Avignon anlässlich des Helios Festivals zeigte ich über 5 Wochen die Installation 'Time Drifts Avignon'. Am 2. August realisierte ich am Mahnmal der Denkmal für die im Nationalsozialismus ermordeten Sinti und Roma Europas anlässlich einer Gedenkstunde am 2. August 2020 eine Lichtinstallation. Weitere Projekte waren in Celle am Kunstmuseum und in Amberg im Luftmuseum. Die Ausstellung im Luftmuseum in Amberg ist noch bis zum 25. Oktober zu besichtigen. Bei meiner Einzelausstellung 'Aëria' zeige ich Fine Art Prints, Leuchtkästen und begehbare Video-Raum-Installationen. Die Ausstellung im Museum gegenstandsfreier Kunst in Otterndorf ist nun zu Ende gegangen.
An diesem Wochenende werde ich meine Hidden-Places-Serie im Rahmen des Festivals Berlin Leuchtet in Berlin weiterführen. Darunter werde ich in Treptow, in Adlershof und im Treptower Park aktiv sein.

Sonderausstellung im Erdgeschoss
Philipp Geist arbeitet seit 1996 weltweit als Künstler mit den Medien Projection Mapping / Lichtkunst, sowie mit Fotografie und Malerei. Er ist einer der Pioniere unter den Video-Mapping Künstlern. Geists Projekte sind in erster Linie gekennzeichnet durch ihre Komplexität in der Integration von Raum, Ton und Bewegtbild. Im Außenbereich verwandelt er die Architekturen in bewegte, malerische Leuchtskulpturen, die die Wahrnehmung der Betrachter in Zwei- und Dreidimensionalität herausfordern. Unter anderem wurden bereits die Christus-Statue in Rio de Janeiro, der Dom in Köln und der Römer in Frankfurt erleuchtet, ebenso das Nürnberger Rathaus und Gebäude in Iran, Indien und Bangladesh.
Für die Ausstellung im Luftmuseum hat Geist eine begehbare Installation mit transparenten Stoffen, Prints und Filmen entworfen, ebenso zeigt er die "Hidden Places"-Serie, weitere abstrakte Projektionen sowie eine Rückschau bisheriger Arbeiten.
Philipp Geist (geb. 1976 in Witten) lebt und arbeitet in Berlin und Weilheim (Oberbayern).

The Artist Philipp Geist will develop the large scale walk able video mapping/ ground installation „Time Drifts - Avignon“. In his light art installation Geist interprets the themes of space and time. He avoids using canvases and projects directly on the facade Basilique Saint Pierre, on the tree, the ground and fog streaming into the plaza. Words are projected onto the ground and visitors, and they are reflected into the fog. Fog is, similar to time, always in a flux, you cannot hold or keep it. The dissolving projection symbolizes the fragmentary knowledge and understanding of life in the past and present, but knowledge is also secured and preserved in the form of text, clearly visible on the concrete. The representations of history are being animated in the moment of the visitors reflections. The dissolving projection symbolizes not only the fragmentary knowledge and understanding of the life in the past, which is to be completed, but also the memory which must be saved from disappearing and dissolving. Thus, Geist develops a dialogue with the location, his artistic work and the people who are entering and leaving the gate and the square. The visitors can be part of the installation by sending beforehand words via email. The visitor himself becomes part of the projected image on the square. Words and abstract light painting with create an immersive room.
This methodical approach to the theme 'time' is supported by the projected images themselves. Words that relate to the topic both directly and indirectly cover the whole ground of the square. Some terms and sentences are obvious references, some invite the visitor to think about the phenomenon of time and its historical and cultural connotations. There will be single words, quotations and proverbs. Words like „transition, fading, becoming, simultaneous, timeless, time gate, metamorphosis, period of time, entrance, beginning,..“ The installation invites the visitors to stay and contemplate, to detect meanings in the thick carpet of partly overlapping words, it asks the visitors to create their own sentences and imagination. The carpet's threads of words are woven chaotically, and it takes time and movements across the square to see and decipher them. It is the poetry of the texts and the dream-like atmosphere that will transform the location. For the Avignon installation, words of time and space in different languages french, english, german,… In Avignon and its long history and its special meaning the topic of time in a artistic poetic light installation is inspiring. The the installation creates a bridge between the past and the present between cultural understandings and worlds.
In the images which are projected onto the Basilique, Geist creates a pictorial, abstract imagery on the computer which also refers to time. Geometrical, spatial forms like squares, cubes, perforated planes, lines and rays, overlay each other in an on-going process and build up a complete picture in order to dissolve it right away. The various elements create a complex architecture of images which is always in a state of flux. By displaying depth and three-dimensionality, the work symbolises the constantly developing, enlarging space of continuing time lines, and represents the complex networks emerging from different spatial components spreading in the course of time.
The installation project is part of a series of installations named Time Drifts. Geist was able to present the site-specific installation in different countries and locations. 2018 in Jerusalem, 2018 Frankfurt Luminale, 2018 Regensburg, 2017 in Darmstadt Staatsmuseum, 2017/2016 Cologne Cathedral NYE, 2012 Berlin Potsdamer Platz Festival of Lights, 2008 Berlin Kulturforum ‚time fades‘, 2009 Eindhoven Glow Festival ‚timing‘, 2010 Montreal Mutek Festival ‚time drifts‘, 2011 Vancouver 125 year anniversary of the city of Vancoucer, 2012 Frankfurt Luminale (German Light Design Award/ Light Art), 2012 Berlin Potsdamer Platz Festival of Lights.

August 1944 die über 4.000 verbliebenen Sinti und Roma in Gaskammern – zumeist als arbeitsunfähig eingestufte Frauen, Kinder und ältere Menschen.

Es erscheint ein Katalog
Bereits 2007 stellten Andreas Schmid, 2011 Phillip Geist und 2012 Elisabeth Sonneck in Einzelausstellungen im Museum gegenstandsfreier Kunst ihr Oeuvre vor.Dem Museum gelang es, die Künstlerin und Künstler zu einem gemeinsamen Projekt erneut in das MgK einzuladen. Alle leben und arbeiten in Berlin und entwickelten dort ein Konzept, das im Parterre ihre Arbeiten in Korrespondenz bringt. In den oberen Räumen werden jeweils einzelne Installationen gezeigt. Ihre unmittelbare Auseinandersetzung mit Farbe und Licht, Bewegung und Raum werden sich so auf den zwei Etagen des Museums wiederfinden und die BesucherInnen in optischer und physischer Aktion in ihren Bann ziehen.

Introduction: Elisabeth Sonneck, Andreas Schmid, Phillip Geist and Ulrike Schick At 9:30 p.m. Philipp Geist will illuminate the rear facade of the museum. Artist matinee: Sunday, March 1st, 2020, 11:00 a.m.A catalog will be published. In 2007 Andreas Schmid, 2011 Phillip Geist and 2012 Elisabeth Sonneck presented their oeuvre in solo exhibitions in the Museum of Non-Object Art. The museum succeeded in inviting the artist to the MgK again for a joint project. Everyone lives and works in Berlin and developed a concept there that correlates their work on the ground floor. Individual installations are shown in the upper rooms. Her direct engagement with color and light, movement and space will be reflected on the two floors of the museum and will cast a spell over the visitors in optical and physical action.

Eingefangene Momente - Captured moments
Bei temporären, ephemeren Lichtkunst-Projekten sind Foto- und Videodokumentationen essentiell, um den Moment einzufangen. Stunden und Tage verbringe ich, die jeweiligen Installationen, die teils nur wenige Stunden oder auch Tage andauern, mit meiner persönlichen Sicht fotografisch festzuhalten. Es entstehen Werke, die wesentlich für meine Arbeit an temporären Orten und Projekten sind. Die Fotoarbeiten sind sozusagen der nachhaltige Nektar der flüchtigen Projekte. Ganz besonders bei der andauernden Hidden Places Serie, die ohne Publikum auf einzelnen Blumen, ehemaligen Wachtürmen, Schiffswracks und Ruinen, an versteckten Orten umgesetzt werden.
In temporary, ephemeral light art projects, photo and video documentaries are essential to capture the moment. I spend hours and days photographing the respective installations, some of which only last a few hours or days, with my personal view. Works are created that are essential for my work in temporary locations and projects. The photo works are, so to speak, the sustainable nectar of the fleeting projects. Especially with the ongoing Hidden Places series, which are implemented in hidden places on individual flowers, former watchtowers, shipwrecks and ruins without an audience.
