As part of the church art project "ÜberEngel", which is being held in different churches in Munich, the Berlin-based artist Philipp Geist (1976) is developing a walk-in video installation in the Heilig-Geist-Kirche (Church of the Holy Spirit).
Geist will show a poetic-picturesque light art video installation in the church's interior. He projects on walls, columns, on the ceiling and on fleeting theatrical fogs, as well as on transparent and abstracted angel wings made of gauze fabric panels, which are suspended from the church ceiling. Geist projects concepts and evanescent image compositions. Angels emerge from nowhere and disappear again, graphic and amorphous forms invite to interpretations. The result is an interplay of concepts, abstract-painterly components and visualized elements – partly alienated, partly figurative.
The church as a place of tolerance seeks to involve different cultures and religions in the project. Visitors to the church and passers-by are invited to deliver terms in various languages and angel drawings in advance, which are then incorporated into the installation. In addition, prayers and religious terms are translated into different languages to address the inclusive and cosmopolitan church. It is thus possible to involve people with different language and cultural backgrounds.
Philipp Geist has worked as an artist with media projection mapping/light installation, photography and painting since 1996 around the world. In Munich, he performed in the Theaterkirche in 2012, in the Liebfrauendom in 2013, in the Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche in 2015 and 2016, as well as at the Munich Residenz in 2014, and at the HVB Tower in 2015: In addition, Geist implemented projects in Rio de Janeiro at Cristo Redentor, the Tehran Azadi Tower, the Grand Palace in Bangkok, as well as the Domplatte in Cologne, Frankfurt Römer, Jerusalem and Pune Shaniwarwada Fort. Geist's projects are primarily characterized by their complexity in the integration of space, sound and moving image. His video mapping installations transform diverse architectures and locations around the world into moving, painterly light sculptures that challenge the viewer's perception of two- and three-dimensionality.

Im Rahmen des in Münchner Kirchen stattfindenden Kirchen-Kunst-Projekts „ÜberEngel“ entwickelt der Berliner Künstler Philipp Geist (1976) eine begehbare Videoinstallation in der Heilig-Geist-Kirche.
Geist zeigt eine poetisch-malerische Lichtkunst-Video-Installation im Innenraum. Dabei projiziert er auf Wände, Säulen, auf die Decke der Kirche und auf flüchtigen Theaternebel, sowie auf transparente und abstrahierte Engelsflügel aus Gazestoffe-Bahnen, die von der Kirchendecke abgehängt sind. Geist projiziert Begriffe und verwehende Bildkompositionen. Engel tauchen aus dem Nichts auf und verschwinden wieder, grafische und amorphe Formen laden zu Interpretationen ein. Es entsteht ein Zusammenspiel aus Begriffen, abstrakt-malerischen Komponenten und visualisierten Elementen, teils verfremdet, teils figurativ.
Die Kirche als Ort der Toleranz soll verschiedene Kulturen und Religionen mit in das Projekt einbeziehen. Besucher der Kirche und Passanten werden eingeladen, im Vorfeld Begriffe in verschiedenen Sprachen und Engelszeichnungen abzugeben, welche dann in die Installation eingebaut werden. Darüber hinaus werden Gebete und religiöse Begriffe in verschiedene Sprachen übersetzt, um die integrative und weltoffene Kirche zu thematisieren. Auf diese Weise werden Menschen mit unterschiedlichen Sprach- und Kulturhintergründen eingebunden.
Philipp Geist arbeitet weltweit seit 1996 als Künstler mit den Medien Projection Mapping/ Lichtinstallation, Fotografie und Malerei. In München war er u.a. in der Theaterkirche 2012, Liebfrauendom 2013, Hl. Kreuz-Kirche 2015 und 2016, sowie an der Residenz 2014, HVB Tower 2015, zu sehen: Darüber hinaus setzte Geist weltweit Projekt u.a. in Rio de Janeiro Cristo Redentor, Teheran Azadi Tower, Bangkok Königspalast, Domplatte Köln, Frankfurt Römer, Jerusalem, Pune Shaniwarwada Fort, um. Geists Projekte sind in erster Linie gekennzeichnet durch ihre Komplexität in der Integration von Raum, Ton und Bewegbild. Seine Video-Mapping-Installationen verwandeln verschiedenste Architekturen und Orte weltweit in bewegte, malerische Lichtskulpturen, die die Wahrnehmung der Betrachter von Zwei- und Dreidimensionalität herausfordern.
